An iron-on label is a small label designed to be permanently attached to fabric using an iron. It is primarily used to identify clothing: a first name, last name, or even a number or address can be written on it to prevent loss or mix-ups, particularly at school, daycare, summer camp, or retirement home.
It consists of a fabric backing and a layer of hot-melt adhesive.
tag4U uses the UFLEX7PV2 from Hexis, a French manufacturer based in Occitanie (Frontignan).
There is no single “best” universal iron-on label, as it all depends on your needs (size, intended use, design, budget, etc.). However, a good iron-on label is distinguished by several essential quality criteria:
- Reliable and durable adhesion
It must withstand dozens of machine washes (60°C) and tumble drying without peeling or fading.
- Quick and easy application
Application should take a few seconds with an iron, without the need for sewing or any other accessories.
- Clear and legible personalization
The printed text must be crisp and resistant to wear and tear.
You should be able to choose the font, color, and possibly icons. - Soft and pleasant fabric
The label must not scratch or irritate the skin, especially for children.
- Fabric compatibility
It must adhere well to common fabrics: cotton, children’s clothing, household linens, etc.
Need to remove an old iron-on label? Find the steps to follow below.
- Cut a window the size of the iron-on label you want to remove from a sheet of paper.
- Place the cut-out portion of the printed paper onto the garment: the hole will serve as a guide, precisely framing the iron-on label.
- Place a piece of aluminum foil over the previously cut-out piece of paper.
- Turn your iron to the hottest setting (wool setting) and, most importantly, do not activate the steam function.
- When the iron is hot, use the tip to iron the aluminum foil, focusing on the area where the label is located.
- Carefully remove the aluminum foil using tweezers to avoid direct contact with the heat.
- It works very well on cotton and some synthetic fabrics, but be careful: some textiles such as The wool may be damaged by the iron.
